The Rent Subsidy Program provides financial assistance to low- and middle-income individuals and families who are renting private or public housing.

The program helps reduce housing insecurity and promotes access to safe, affordable accommodation. Eligible beneficiaries receive a monthly subsidy paid directly to the landlord or as a reimbursement to the tenant, depending on the municipality’s procedures.

Target

  • Low-income individuals or families who rent their primary residence
  • Young adults (18–35 years old) starting independent living or employment
  • Senior citizens or persons with disabilities living on fixed incomes
  • Families affected by relocation, eviction, or social vulnerability
  • Tenants registered under valid rental contracts recognized by local authorities

Documents Needed

  • Valid national ID card or passport (for all adult household members)
  • Registered rental contract (minimum 6-month duration)
  • Proof of income for all household members (salary slips, pension coupons, or tax statement)
  • Declaration of household composition (available online or at the office)
  • Utility bills or residence certificate confirming actual occupancy
  • For vulnerable groups: social assistance certificate or medical documentation (if applicable)

All documents must be recent (issued within the last 30 days) and may be submitted as certified digital copies.

Steps to Be Taken to Benefit from the Service

  1. Review eligibility criteria published by the MDSHA or local city hall.
  2. Gather and prepare required documents.
  3. Complete the Rent Subsidy Application Form (available online or in print).
  4. Submit the application to your local social assistance office or via the online platform.
  5. Verification and evaluation – officials review income data, rental contract, and household information.
  6. Receive notification of approval or rejection within the specified time frame.
  7. Approved applicants begin receiving monthly payments to their bank account or directly to the landlord.

  • Application review: 10–15 working days after submission
  • First payment: Within 30 days of approval
  • Subsequent monthly payments: Made automatically by the 10th of each month
  • Renewal or re-evaluation: Every 12 months, or sooner if income status changes
